The Essence of Silence
The only sound you sense is the silence of gently falling snow. Katsuragi Kitanomaru is built with beams and pillars meticulously selected from among more than one hundred old private homes in areas of heavy snowfall. In addition, it incorporates traditional Japanese styles such as the ‘nagayamon’ gate, typical of samurai residences in old Shizuoka, and an ‘iraka’-style roof covered by locally produced ‘Enshu Kawara’ tiles. The result is a space where time slows to a quiet flow that brings stillness and peace of mind.
